Located in the heart of Central America is Belize,

bordered to the north by Mexico and west by

Guatemala and on the Caribbean coast of

Central America.

Belize is known for it's Mayan Temples; its

tropical rainforest, and is the only country

in Central America to have English as it's official

language. The Belize Barrier Reef lies about a

half mile off one side of the island and is the largest

barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere . Drawn by

this natural wonder, divers from around the world

enjoy  the beautiful coral reef. The water temperature

usually ranges between 73 - 85 degrees.

On the island of Belize the noisiest inhabitant is the

Howler monkey. The Howler monkey may be seen

on a number of tours that visit the rainforest.

The Keel-billed Toucan, known as the "bill bird" to

locals, is the national bird of Belize, although there

is an abundance of macaws and parrots as well.

The Jaguar is native to Belize and was even part

of the Mayan culture. The Belize Jaguar may be viewed

at the Belize Zoo home to 45 different species native

to Belize. Travelers to Belize should plan a tour of

the Belize Maya temples and ruins. These Ancient Mayan

Temples were once cities, towns and religious sites

serving as a major center of commerce and trade.

The food of Belize :

Tamales, Relleno, Rice, Beans, Belizean Creole,

and Mestizo specialties.
