The name Utah comes from the Native American

Ute tribe and means "people of the mountains".

Utah was the 45th territory to become a state in 1896.

The first permanent American settlers in Utah were

Mormons. After suffering religious persecution, it was

Bringham Young who led a group of settlers into Salt Lake

Valley in 1847, later many more followed.

Modern Utah has become a hub of finance, insurance, and

technology while maintaining some traditional stalwarts

such as mining, agriculture, and energy exploration.

Tourism is a large portion of Utah's economy and millions

of visitors journey to its state and national parks every year.

Utah is considered one of the top Snow Ski

destinations in the U.S.  Due to its inland location and dry

arid climate it claims to have the driest snow in the country

and  maintains that it is the absolute best powder for

skiing.
